Thieves return stuff stolen from Sexual Assault charity with apology
A San Bernardino, CA non-profit focused on helping survivors of sexual assault was broken into and its computers were stolen, along with children's story books and sweets.
Two hours later, the stolen items turned up returned in a shopping cart along with an apology note.
“We had no idea what we were taking. Here is your stuff back. We hope that you guys can continue to make a difference in people’s lives. God Bless.”
A quote from Vicki Stallings:
"“I started thinking that even though I was upset with the damage they caused inside, because it was very costly, I just thought sometimes people make bad choices and it was compassion that brought those items back to us,” [. . .] “I’ve been at this agency for 26 years and we have never ever had something that touched us like this.”"
Faith in humanity, today has been slightly restored. But as someone who has been burgled I can't raise these thieves as pinnacles of humanity, they're shades of grey, and it doesn't sound like this is their first burglary, it's just that these people are more on the 'right-side' of wrong, perhapsThis is a good thing. It's unfortunate that they broke in and stole in the first place but this is a good thing. People do bad things all of the time and usually don't try at all to undo it. They did. Just because you do something like this in the first place doesn't make you an evil person. The fact that they had the conscience to try to right their wrong is proof of that. Life is hard and sometimes people make mistakes.
